Welcome video for all new employes of Atlassian

Agency: Instrument
Client: Atlassian
Project: Welcome Video
Role: Motion Designer

The Project

This project was commissioned by Instrument, with Atlassian’s internal teams as the ultimate audience, to bring extra energy, cohesion, and visual clarity to the onboarding experience.

It was all about taking Atlassian’s brand-new identity and making it sing for a welcome video shown to new hires. The team at Instrument set the structure, and I jumped in as motion designer to spice things up—finding clever ways to inject energy into what could’ve easily been a “corporate checklist” piece. The fun part was figuring out how to make Atlassian’s new shape language feel alive: paint strokes that reveal key moments, shapes morphing into other shapes, and bold silhouettes paired with playful type. Every detail had to balance clarity and delight, so that the video felt both polished and genuinely engaging. The end result? Something that actually feels welcoming rather than just another HR box to tick.

The Challenge

This project came with its fair share of puzzles. First up: we had to figure out how to make Atlassian’s new shape language feel more than just static design guidelines. That meant dreaming up unique ways to put it in motion; paint strokes that revealed imagery, shapes transforming into other shapes, silhouettes that framed moments, and type that popped in and out with personality.

Finding the right stock footage was another hurdle. Atlassian has a fresh, modern vibe, and most stock clips… don’t. We spent time hunting and tweaking so the footage felt like it belonged in the same world. In the end, the tight constraints forced us to get scrappy and imaginative, which gave the video the spark it needed.
